If you have ever been in love, or even quite smitten, this piece is so "heart-wrenchingly" relatable.
The Heart; Having been violently pierced with cupids' arrow, it slices in two despite the obvious warning "fragile". Cupid doesn't care.
I enjoy the fact that perhaps a fruit was referenced for this, I feel like if the metaphoric heart had a flavour, it'd be cherry or maybe even citrus. Showing a heart can be sweet but can also quickly turn bitter. The bright red and plain background, an interesting contrast.
So many ideas and themes wrapped in this one piece. I also enjoy that one sliver of heart, it looks like a rose petal. Hearts can be delicate as a flower and need to be treated with care.
One wonders if this heart can be repaired, or is it too late?
Heartichoke What seemed like the dreaded end of life turned out to be just another exit interview; a debriefing in which they cut your heart out, half it, and drive an arrow through the larger part. Layered, like an artichoke, somehow, one survives without an exit wound, whether or not survival's what one wanted.
All life is fragile - not just hearts and romance. And life is brutal. Once the blow has been dealt... you can't put an egg back together once you crack the shell, can you? A previous comment compares the small sliver to a rose petal; when I first glance at this picture I always see it as a feather. Anyway, a GREAT painting.
