Art is art. It should not be judged based on standards of "good" and "bad." It should be "judge"d based on the standard of intention. Does this art convey its intention to those who view it? I cannot tell because I have not been told of its intentions. But, then again, I should not be told these intentions; I can assume that, since this is the finished product, the submitted product, the final product, it appears as the author intended it to appear. I think that this art is lovely and creative, but that does not mean anything. I think the house and trees are witty in the way that they are drawn, but that does not mean anything. The artist should not cater to my desires, only his. The only thing that matters is that this artist shares his work because it is finished. It is done. And I rate this deviation with five stars in every category because it is exactly as it is meant to be.
I adore this painting. Absolutely delightful. I love the concept, how you took an idea that I have seen before, and sort of remixed it with the light bulbs, it's something that I could see selling very well as a canvas in a big department store, because it's out there, but still commercial. This would look great on a child's wall, or on a off-beat valentines day card, or a phone case, it's really hitting every market.
You hit it out of the ball park with the moon, I didn't even notice the big light bulb was actually the moon until my 5th or so look, and it really blew me away. It almost looks digital, like you overlapped a picture of the moon onto the painting, and the fact you did that by hand makes me envious of your raw talent. The stars are fantastic, how they fade down is really pretty, the clouds are on point, and the lighting is fantastic.
Now, the very bottom of the painting is where you could improve. That house and tree are not the best, and the little plants are not doing it for me either, it looks rushed. Her face could also be a little more inspired, because the little boy is excellent, and I don't think the girl matches. So that's where I docked you some points.
Overall it's a fantastic painting, and I would totally buy it if I saw it for sale at a store. Oh, and your use of color is also very very good. The blues are really doing it for me, and how you showed restraint with your blacks also shows how well you understand color. Fantastic work!!
I don't know how to explain it, but somehow this painting touched something deep within me. To me, this scene conveys a mix of sadness, hope and serenity, like a separation softened by a warm promise... I'm not sure, really. What I am certain of, though, is that this painting is simply gorgeous. It was a clever idea to mesh the hot-air ballon, the moon and the lightbulb into a single entity; I love it. I also like your realistic star-filled sky, and the fact that those stars are actually (maybe?) thousands of other lightbulbs, just like the one the little girl is holding so tenderly. Anyway, I'm lacking the words, but all I wanted to say was that I really like this piece, so thank you for sharing it!
