Odalisque - work in progress by borda Odalisque - work in progress by borda
[link] finished work!

hi, here's my new work on progress, oil/canvas, 100x80 cm, quite different from my other paintings, I wanted to be a study, a virtuosity exercise.

I posted it before finish it, for asking any suggestion, crits, so I may change small details, any comment is more than welcome, still is a lot to work on it, maybe around one week, practically need to repaint almost every detail, to enrich textures, correct color & stuff.
many thanks!

no matter how long I look at the piece, my eye is drawn to the detail of her foot and the still life fruit at the right of the piece. I'm sure if viewed in person, and taking a few steps back from the piece, her expression and the look in her eyes would draw the attention. Anyway.. wonderful painting. I hope you are proud!

i guess you're right :flirty:! i love all interesting poses that show charme, playfullness, elegance and erotic. moving your body in such positions is a form of art to me :D... maybe the silent version of dancing.... and well in my heart i've always been a dancer

Ahh, everyones ssaid everything I would say. You're amazing. Besides, I'm sure a photograph doesnt justify the work itself..
The only thing I noticed is that her foot is almost as bright as her sheet, but you are not nearly finished ♥

love the skin tones, stomach looks a bit flaccid. She looks like the pear next to her, which you probably did on purpose. good job.

The first thing that caught my eye in this picture was actually her foot. It's so detailed, you got all of the folds and wrinkles and everything. Man, you paint the human figure so well. <33 I'm looking forward to seeing the finished version.

It does seem as though if she stood, she would look more like a triangle than an hour glass of a pear. The arm pit we can see either isn't high enough, or there doesn't seem to be enough back. That's probably the best I can put it -- she doesn't seem to have enough upper back. The detail is wonderful though.

I feel the sitters body is too skinny for my feeling, compared to the hips. Even if it is in perspective depth. The front part looks sublime!

Amazing work! When I looked feet and cloth, I believed that I'm watching photograph. But I hope the face of the woman would be little more realistic-looking. It's not _bad_, but without doubt is not as good as the rest of the picture.

Sorry bad english!

wow, that is gorgeous. I really like it, neoclassical orientalism has been one of my favorite subjects for a while and this definitely looks promising. I'm looking forward to seeing the gorgeous details that this kind of paintings are usually full of.
The only thing I can suggest is to rethink the hand with the fan, as it looks a little too 'staged' compared with the rest of her pose. Seems like she just had to have the hand there so you can show off the fan ;) If there was a more natural way of implementing that fan, it would probably look better

thank you, yet neoclassical orientalism is mad in details, don't know if I'll be able or have the patience to pimp my painting so badly
indeed that hand gives me nightmares, but I won't give up so easy, I'll try to make solve the problem or at least to make it as invisible as possible, the fan is needed there for the composition :P

haha indeed it is :P A more painterly look with thicker brushstrokes will probably also suit the painting as long as the colors are vibrant and 'exotic' looking and you focus some details in the more 'important' spots, so don't worry.:)
I'm sure you'll figure out a way to handle that arm/hand :) keep going, I'm really excited about seeing this one finished!

Its really saucy twist on the original! how original, how beautiful and well planned. I like how the skin of the fresh fruit seems just the same texture and roundness as her skin, its a really subtle similarity that works wonders.
Could I suggest you give just a tiny tiny touch more depth to the nose, around its bridge, but Id advise you to do nothing more that would detract from the intensity of her gaze. I can see your still working in that area though, on the feathers of the fan, so I hope I'm not being annoying with this advice!
Its such a lovely lovely piece. I like it better than the original.
