The number one highlight of this piece is the details. The parts that one typically takes at face value in most pictures is something else entirely (noting the hair, the ruff and the collar of dip pens). I really appreciate that. The color palette for this mood was well chosen, especially with the eyes being naturally drawn to her face by the reds of her lips and her hair. The girl's expression is particularly arresting. You truly sense that the story she has to tell is a tragic one, but well worth the hearing. I would love to know more about the story behind this work.
I love the originality of the picture. Like taking the concept of book and translating into the harlequin collar. The detail on the ship and boat is exquisite. The injection of color is amazing as well. I like how you take of the idea of books and storytelling and use it with the concept of an octopus which produces ink which can be used to write a story. The only thing that is bit off putting is her hands. While they are finely drawn and detailed, they don't look like they are connected to her body. Also for the proportions of the head the hands are way too small. I have to say excellent work though.
