The girl in this painting looks amazingly sad. Even though her pose tells a thing, her eyes say a whole another story. What I love about this is that the details are made with such scrupulosity, you can actually feel the fear from her soul. She is supposed to look attractive, but those tears are the gate to what's called 'reality'. It really blows my mind to see so many feelings evoked in only one image. The colors are incredible and the contrast is very powerful. Now, the only thing about it that I can't overlook are the proportions. I believe her teeth are a little too small than they are supposed to be. But the issue is extremely small, almost unnoticeable, so other than that, the painting is superbe.
This artwork lays forth a dazzling scene of psychological turmoil. The details chosen to represent her state of emotion glisten with a level of realism that is perfectly unsettling when viewed in this jarring style of portraiture. The promiscuous level of detail in the lips, combined with the symbolism of the pearl necklace, contrast against her desperate tears to portray a level of masochistic (even Stockholm like) desire that is both discomforting as well as undeniably beautiful.
While the style of the face is uncomfortably weighted in the textures and proportions of its main features, this effect couples favorably with the artist's intent of the piece to create a dizzying work that stirs its observers to their dark core, as though we are the ominous unstoppable silhouette being reflected in her eyes.
This is one of the most powerful paintings I've ever seen. I wrote a long long first-impression to you a few days ago ... and then something happened and all was lost ... so I ended up writing a short note. One day I will go back to this and try to re-write my initial feelings. But for now, just know, that I love this and it has moved me like no other piece of work I've seen!
SHOCKINGLY POWERFUL! I say she's scared to death of the pedophile in the hat. He even has her wearing a wedding band. This is not an abused child. This is a slave. Was she abducted? The location appears remote...it looks like they're in the middle of a desert somewhere. They've been there many long months...perhaps a year or possibly longer. Regard the length of her stiletto nails. What prepubescent girl do you know that has such long painted nails? Her expression says she has succumbed to the reality of her circumstances ... she is beyond hope. Her family, if ever she had one, has stopped looking for her ... they've assumed the worst. But what could be worse than this?
Damn, here it is! I thought I lost this when I hit submit. Hope you've read my initial reaction to this piece. Wonderfully POWERFUL! So though-provoking ... and it feels like all of us have been commissioned to CHANGE THIS WORLD AND ALL THAT HURTS!
oh my goodness, this painting. It makes me uncomfortable just looking at it. For some reason I think of Jack the Ripper, and the way she looks like she's completely resigned to what ever he's going to do to her just gives me chills.
It's amazingly well done, hard to believe it's not finished.
